Mathura is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated 57.6 km north of Agra, and 166 km south-east of Delhi; about 14.5 km from the town of Vrindavan, and 22 km from Govardhan. In Hinduism, Mathura is the birthplace of Lord Krishna, which is situated at the Krishna Janmasthan Temple. It is one of the Sapta Puri, the seven cities measured holy by Hindus, also called Mokshyadayni Tirth. The Keshava Deo Temple was made in early times in the place of Krishna's birthplace. Janmashtami is celebrated in Mathura each year. Mathura has been selected as one of the heritage cities for the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of the Government of India.

Vrindavan is a historical city in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the holiest places in Vaishnavism. It is situated in the Brij Bhoomi region, and this is the place where Krishna spent most of his childhood days. It is also named Old Fort or Purana Qila of Mathura. This fort (Qila) was built in a large area that was enclosed by a long wall. Over the period, the fort got destroyed and in the 16th century, it was renewed by Raja Man Singh of Amber who was the general of Mughal Emperor Akbar. The style of the fort is a combination of Hindu and Muslim architecture. In olden times, Kans Qila was thought to be a savior to protect the people of Mathura against the floods in Yamuna River as it is situated on the northern banks of the river.

• Vishram Ghat, Mathura: Vishram Ghat is a holy bathing ghat situated about 4.5 km from Mathura Junction on the banks of River Yamuna. It is the key ghat of Mathura and is central to 25 other ghats. Tourists from all over the country visit Vishram Ghat to bathe in its holy waters and perform the traditional parikrama that starts and ends here. Vishram means rest and it is named because Lord Krishna rested at this place after killing Kansa, the evil demon king.
