Nalanda district is one of the thirty-eight districts of the state of Bihar, India. Bihar Sharif is the administrative headquarters of this Nalanda. Nalanda district is one of the prime tourist hotspots in Bihar. The districts comprise the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nalanda is situated in the Magadh region of southern Bihar. Nalanda became an independent district when it was separated from Patna on 9 November 1972.

  • Surya Mandir: Surya Mandir, is a temple devoted to the Sun God. It is located near Nalanda University. Many Buddhists, as well as Hindu idols, are enshrined in this temple with the most beautiful one being the five feet high idol of Goddess Parvati. In this Mandir, the Chatth Puja is held here twice a year in the Hindu months of Vaishakha and Kartika and is celebrated with great fervor. Many followers visiting this place in Nalanda pay their respects to God.

 

  • Nalanda Archaeological Museum: Nalanda Archaeological Museum is established in 1917, the museum houses antiquities mainly those gotten from Nalanda. It is the earliest university located in the town of Rajgir. The museum consists of four galleries that show some of the historical findings.  The statues and pictures belonging to the Buddhist, Jain, and Hindu faith are available here, most of which are made of stone, stucco, and terracotta. The first of the four galleries has 57 statues and pictures & the second gallery presents stuccos, terracotta, iron implements, and inscriptions. The third exhibits 93 specimens of bronze. And the fourth has 36 stone images and sculptures.
